On behalf of the 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish, KBZE 105.9Fm, and Whitney National Bank, we welcome to each and every participant, family member and guest to the oldest chartered festival in the state of Louisiana, The 69th Annual Shrimp and Petroleum Festival. No other small town in Louisiana has hosted a more award winning festival, than Morgan City's own S&P.

From the historic Atachafalaya riverfront, to the beautiful homes along Second Street, the 6th Annual 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish 5K Fun Run/Walk will give each participant an interesting and exciting tour of one Louisiana's most unique cities, commonly known as The Cajun Coast. As you tour Morgan City during the hours of the race/walk, cherish that time. Those memories will last a lifetime.

Hotel Accommodations

To assist you in getting the best local rates close to the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, the 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish will be utilizing the services of The Morgan City Holiday Inn, as our official housing reservation company. They have negotiated a discounted rate for Shrimp and Petroleum Festival weekend. Call The Morgan City Holiday Inn at 1-985-384-2200 for all your housing and tour needs while in Morgan City.

Date/Start Time

The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2003. Join us at the corner of Everett and Second Streets in historic downtown Morgan City at the finish line; walkers will immediately follow runners. Entry Fees $16. for persons pre-registered by Friday, August 23, 2002 -- Includes t-shirt. $20. for entrants registered after August 23rd and the day of the race -- also includes t-shirt. $12. for senior citizens, includes one t-shirt. $10. allows participation for anyone, but includes no shirt.

Pick up a race entry form at the KBZE studios, 1320 Victor II Blvd in Morgan City, La.; the Morgan City Holiday Inn on Roderick Street; the KWBJ tv studios on Michigan Street, also in Morgan City; or any Whitney Bank location in St. Mary Parish. Parking Plenty of parking will be available around the race start.

Course Information The 5th Annual 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish course travels through some of the most beautiful and interesting parts of Morgan City. The race will begin at the corner of Everett and Second Streets, and travel up Second to Brashear Ave where it will take a left. The race will then head straight to the Morgan City seawall, and travel along the beautiful Atchafalaya River where it will eventually turn right on Leona Street. There it will travel to Federal Ave, where it will take a right, and proceed down Federal Ave to Onstead Street, where it will take a right. There, it will proceed down Onstead street to Second, where it will take a left, and proceed back to the starting line.

Course Timers Race times will be called out at each mile marker. Mile signs are posted at each mile.

Course Support The 5th Annual 100 Black Men of St. Mary Parish 5K Fun Run/Walk will have fluid stations located throughout the course. Afterwords, there will be fruit and more fluids.

Medical Services

Finish Line

As you finish the race, your time and place will be recorded several times to ensure maximum reliability. In order to keep the finish process smooth and rapid, please observe the following guidelines: Make sure your race number is visible as you approach the finish line and while you are in the finish chute. It is very important that you remain in the finishing order as you move through the chutes. Do not permit family members or friends to cross the finish line with you - this will result in your disqualification.

Post-Race Information

Food and Refreshments Following your finish you will be directed to the water stations and then to the post event food distribution area./p>

Awards

Masters Division

The 100 Black Men will present a $200 check to the top male and female finisher of the race.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies for top male and female finishers. First place medals for these categories: 13 & under male & female; 14-24 male & female; 25-34 male & female; 35-44 male & female; 45-54 male & female; 55 and over male and female. Ribbons will be awarded to second and third place finishers in these categories.

Runner Amenities All pre-registered participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Miscellaneous Information

Race Personnel reserve the right to remove any runner who appears significantly impaired or disabled. That runner must stop all running. Report significant injuries or downed runners to medical, police, or first aid personnel. First aid stations will be available throughout the race for your safety. Injured runners will be transported to the finish line medical tent or to the nearest hospital via EMS unit.
